The New 2020 Nissan Versa

The all-new 2020 Nissan Versa is a subcompact car with plenty to offer. Available as both a sedan and a hatchback, the 2020 Versa gets the best safety score in its class. The Versa has been redesigned for this model year and is now classified as a small car rather than a minicar. Now, you can shop small without compromising convenience, comfort, safety, or character.

The 2020 Nissan Versa is a sleeker-looking car than previous models and has been given a more upscale interior. Keep reading to learn why you should consider this entry-level compact sedan a serious contender for your next new car.

Interior Features
The redesigned 2020 Versa seats five people and gives nearly three inches of extra legroom to front-seat passengers. While the back isn't as spacious, two adults can still sit comfortably in the back for short rides. The base model offers 14.7 cubic feet of trunk space, while the SV and SR trim levels offer 15 cubic feet-adequate for a small car. There are also useful cubbies on the center console for drivers looking for more storage.

In the cabin, you'll find high-quality, soft-touch plastic, unique cloth upholstery, and improved finish on the panels and doors. While the back seat doesn't completely fold down, the rear seat is 60/40 split-folding. You'll also find a wide cargo opening and a deep trunk.

In 2020, Nissan includes its Zero Gravity seats in the Versa. These seats are inspired by the weightlessness of space, supporting your body with a neutral spine posture. This natural position places the least amount of stress on your bones and joint - meaning your body is less likely to become tired. The Zero Gravity seats were designed over the course of a decade with the mission of optimizing comfort on longer drives.

A 7-in. touch-screen infotainment system is standard in the base model. You'll find it and the buttons and knobs clearly-marked and easy to use. All but the base model include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as optional features including a six-speaker stereo, automatic climate control, satellite radio, proximity keyless entry, and remote start.

Performance and Handling
The 2020 Nissan Versa has a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 122-hp-an upgrade from the 109-hp in the previous-generation version. The base model comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission. A CVT that operates smoothly and shifts with ease is available in all but the base.

With responsive steering, the Nissan Versa offers a balanced ride and feels planted to the road during turns. You can rely on the accurate steering wheel to point where you want your Versa to go with ease.

Gas Mileage
With an EPA-estimated 32 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway, the Versa offers above-average gas mileage. With the five-speed manual transmission, you'll get 27/35 mpg.

Five-Star Safety
The 2020 Versa is heavier and slightly larger than its predecessor. In its two crash tests, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2020 Versa sedan the highest rating of "Good". The Versa received an overall five out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety -five stars in the frontal crash and side crash tests and four in the rollover test.

Available Trim Levels
The new 2020 Versa is available in three trim levels: S, SV, and SR. Each comes with a four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. The base Versa includes some driver assistance features such as forward and reverse automatic braking and pedestrian detection.

The S trim level includes standard features such as cloth upholstery, a four-way manually adjustable passenger seat, a manually adjustable driver's seat, automated forward and reverse emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Even the lowest trim level offers driver-assistance features that you won't find on the Versa's rivals. These features include forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning.

Also standard is a 7-in. touch-screen infotainment system that includes three USB ports, Bluetooth, voice recognition, and a four-speaker stereo. You have the option of choosing a center armrest, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a universal garage door opener. The Versa S comes standard with an automatic CVT and a split-folding rear seat.

The Nissan Versa SV has all the features included on the S level, but adds upgraded cloth upholstery, alloy wheels, a driver's seat armrest, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, heated outside mirrors, and satellite radio. Additional safety features include rear cross-traffic alert, driver alert monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-seat reminder-all standard.

The highest trim level is the SR, which includes standard features such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sport cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, remote start, a six-speaker stereo, fog lights, and LED headlights. The SR is the only trim level to receive 17-inch rims. The available Convenience Package adds adaptive cruise control and heated front seats.
