When it comes to developing compact trucks, Nissan has a proud history of innovation. They practically developed the compact pickup truck segment in the US in 1958 by releasing the Datsun 220. All of this is to say that Nissan knows compact trucks, and the New 2020 Nissan Frontier proves that they are dedicated to producing best-in-class mid-size trucks with powerful engines, impressive safety features, and a comfortable ride. If you're interested in a new Frontier, keep reading to learn why you should schedule a test drive with your Fort Worth Nissan dealer.

What's New for the 2020 Nissan Frontier?
The most recent Frontier belongs to a design that began in the 2005 model year. It's a time-proven, trusted design that has lasted a long span between redesigns. 2020 is the last of the generation, however, as Nissan plans to completely redesign the Frontier for 2021. If you enjoy the classic Frontier, this is the last year you'll have the opportunity to purchase one new.

The 2020 Frontier features several upgrades that make it a fitting predecessor to the upcoming overhaul. The 2019 Frontier offered a 261-hp V6 engine in addition to the four-cylinder base. The 2020 model offers one engine, which is a 310-hp V6. This provides the new truck with more power and slightly better gas mileage than the older editions. Nissan also adds an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission this year, while previous models only offered five- and six-speed manuals and automatics). New standards include push-button start as well as power windows and locks.

Engine, Performance and Gas Mileage
The 2020 Nissan Frontier new powertrain is composed of a 310-hp V6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. For most drivers' needs, its acceleration and overall power are plenty, and the engine is surprisingly quiet.

The Frontier drives well and maintains poised through turns with accurate steering. The ride is pleasantly supple as the suspension easily soaks up road imperfections. Adding four-wheel drive adds an extra inch of ground clearance to the Frontier. You'll also get a transfer case and hill descent control. Optional features include a limited-slip system for improved traction and a locking rear differential.

For a superior off-roading experience, choose the Frontier Pro-4X. These models come standard with four-wheel drive but also offer additional features such as a front tow hook, skid plates, and Bilstein shocks. The two-wheel-drive Frontier is rated at 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, while the four-wheel-drive Frontier is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway. This is about average for a small truck.

Interior and Cargo Space
With the 2020 Frontier, you'll find a four-seat, extended King Cab as well as five-seat Crew Cab body styles. The front seats are comfortable, offering visibility in all directions as well as ample leg- and headroom. The Crew Cab rear seats seat adults comfortably, while the King Cab features smaller jump seats. If you plan to transport rear-seat passengers regularly, the Crew Cab model is for you.

The Nissan Frontier King Cab features a 6-foot-1-inch bed while most Crew Cab models feature a 5-foot bed. The SV trim level is available with either model. Both are 3 feet, 8 inches wide. To upgrade the bed, you can choose to add the Utili-track C-channel system of adjustable tie-downs. This system provides more versatility for hauling items. Inside the cabin, there is a decent amount of storage space. You'll also find storage boxes beneath the truck's rear seats.

Interior Technology
The Frontier includes keyless entry, a 7-inch touch screen, push-button start, four speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, and Siri Eyes Free. Optional features include a moonroof, a six- or eight-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 10-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system. You can also get a 5.8-inch touch screen with navigation and satellite radio.
